They certainly don’t do what they do, for the money. I don’t doubt that they have some structured procedures for what they do. All I can do ,is form an opinion based on the ones that kept showing up on my door. These in particular did not seem judgemental at all, and really, love them or hate them , how many people could actually pick up a bible and go around to stangers houses ,and talk about God? It is a noble cause, but some people can probably get violent ,if you show up on there door talking about religous beliefs that differ from theirs.
I don’t agree with everything they say, but I have to respect what they are trying to do. I don’t believe that anyone is forcing them to do what they do.

A San Diego Superior Court judge has ordered the Church of Jehovah’s Witnesses, also known as the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania, to pay $ a day for every day that it fails.
A San Diego judge ruled Wednesday that the church’s governing body covered up years of sexual abuse by a member who later became an elder. Jose Lopez, who was awarded the money, sued the group, alleging that he was molested in at age 7 by a member of the Spanish congregation in the Linda Vista area of San Diego. Lopez said the elders suggested Gonzalo Campos as his Bible teacher even though they knew he had molested at least one other boy, the suit contended.
Lopez also said that after he told his mother about the molestation, church leaders told his mother not to report it to law enforcement. Six other men and one woman who also claimed that Campos molested them have settled their lawsuits out of court. In a statement Friday, the Watchtower denied there was a cover-up, disputed that Campos held any responsibility within the congregation at the time of the alleged molestation and said it planned to appeal the ruling. The trial judge’s decision is a drastic action for any judge to take given the circumstances of this case,” said Mario Moreno, associate general counsel for Watchtower.
Trial evidence showed that Campos looked into molestation allegations against Campos, found that he was repentant, and did not expel him. He became an elder in , was kicked out of the church after another alleged victim surfaced in but was reinstated in , U-T San Diego said, citing court records. Campos later confessed in a court deposition to abusing at least eight children between and but fled the country several years ago after a report was made to San Diego police and is believed to be living in Mexico, the paper said.

Cosby accuser asks judge to void confidentiality deal Jeremy Roebuck, Inquirer Staff Writer Wednesday, July 8, Andrea Constand, the former Temple University employee who lodged sexual-assault allegations against Bill Cosby in a lawsuit, now says she wants to publicly tell her story. In court filings Wednesday, Constand asked a federal judge in Philadelphia to void a confidentiality agreement in her settlement deal with the actor-comedian, saying he and his representatives had repeatedly violated its terms and had left her little recourse but to respond.
She also asked for the release of a full transcript of a deposition Cosby gave in the case. Excerpts of that deposition — unsealed this week — have reignited more recent controversy tied to allegations from more than two dozen other women who have also accused Cosby, 77, of sexual misconduct….

PARTNERS IN THE TRUTH – RELIABLE INTRODUCTIONS FOR JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES & FRIENDS
In a June 23 ruling, expected to be made final today, judge Richard Strauss admonished the church for willfully ignoring a court order to produce all documents associated with a Body of Elders letter that church leaders sent to parishes around the world in a quest to learn about sexual abuse of children by church leaders. Over the course of the past year, the Watchtower Society and its lawyers have fought hard to keep the letter confidential, claiming that turning over the documents would infringe on the privacy of those mentioned in the letter that were not associated with the case.
In March , the church turned over a heavily redacted version of the letter.

The year-old accuser said higher-ups told local clergy members not to report her abuse by church elder and relative Max Reyes. Another woman also filed a lawsuit against Reyes, but compensation was not awarded to her. The monetary award must be reviewed by the trial judge, but the church says it plans to appeal. Despite the review, the year-old woman’s attorneys say Wednesday’s verdict sends a message to the church to report child abuse to outside authorities.
Both women say that over the course of 13 years, from the early s to the late s, Reyes sexually molested and raped them. The women say they reported the abuse to church elders, who handled the matter internally after consulting with the national organization. The elders expelled the abuser from the congregation in then reinstated him the next year, the lawsuit states, and the abuse of the girl who is now 21 continued.

When the Russian high court convened to consider this ban, in the audience was JW governing body member Mark Sanderson seated. This is hugely distressing, as it reveals quite a bit about the priorities of the religion. See this post regarding the initial Inquiry and this post regarding the followup. Keep in mind, the ARC was not a criminal trial; there was no risk of someone going to jail at the end of it, and no fines or other such punishments to be levied, so there was no reason for the governing body to avoid it.
The purpose of the ARC is to note how institutions can, and should, improve their policies and practices for protecting children, period. During the first part of the ARC Inquiry, in August of , governing body member Geoffrey Jackson gave lip service to their desire to make such improvements: Keep in mind, Jackson was there because he had been subpoenaed to appear; he is an Australian citizen and had coincidentally been in Australia at the time, caring for his elderly father.
At one point during his testimony at the first part of the ARC Inquiry, Jackson said the following to an attorney representing one of the abuse victims who had come forward: They have yet to acknowledge the problem within the religion on their online TV channel, in their literature, in public discourses, or elsewhere. This negates, in my mind, any argument that the presence of Sanderson was to comfort and encourage the individual members of the religion who might suffer under this proposed ban.
If not, why show up for one hearing and to comfort and support one group of members, and not the other?
